Richard was born in Ware, Hertfordshire.
He now lives in Cornwall "with a wonderful woman called Lizzie", who is also an artist.

He learned his construction skills as an apprentice steel fabricator, guided by experienced elders.  Their factory had been a Black Smith's and Farriers, entering the 20th century with the first arc welders in the country.

"I stayed there for 12 years. Then  had a short spell as a stunt man, on shows with performing dare devils.  Surprisingly, I survived, to return to general fabrications.  I am grateful for the skills I acquired during this period of my life, as they have allowed me to be more ambitious in my artistic projects.

"It was when I moved to Cornwall I was introduced to Stainless Steel, with which I am now fascinated.  Working with the material demands an understanding of its mystery and the learning of specialised techniques, which avail the creator of novel effects from its polished surfaces;  unique bends and profiles, create movement from a stationary, solid form.

"As with so many people, it was a traumatic period of my life which simulated me to re-evaluate my priorities and led me to a pivotal decision.  Having worked for a good number of years in the general fabrications side of metal work, I decided to indulge a strong desire to express my artistic interest in Stainless Steel sculpture.

"I have often been described as prolific.  Working from home, at first, it was not long before my repressed imagination and freed enthusiasm had created a large variety of forms, which I was asked to exhibit at shows."
